Picked this book up the other day and I'm about 100 pages in.

Holy crap. I can't think of another writer who can use so many pages and so much description to say so very little.

Maybe GRRM?

Is this whole book a trek through molasses?

I really want to enjoy it. The overall story is fascinating, but the read is just brutal.

King's best novel imo. Stick with it and you'll be hooked soon enough.

Not that I'm comparing authors as I've never read IT, but you should give James Clavell's Asian Saga a go. Especially the first one, Shogun. The dude would describe every last detail of a meal the characters were about to eat.
(great book though)

It's my favorite book ever written. I've read it cover to cover at least 6 times in my life.

But I'm a huge King fan boy, so....

You can tell GRRM is fat because he can spend 5 pages describing every dish of a feast

It's great. I read it for the first time this year. It maybe the creepiest book in terms of understanding the palpable fear the characters' experience.

But, yes, King will leave no stone unturned.

This first part of the book he is really just setting up the players. After that it starts to read like an adventure novel. At least that's how it is to me so far. I'm also in the middle of reading IT.

King now is real anti-adjectives and against overemphasizing scenery, think he developed a ton after IT.

IT was written when King was at his peak, drinking and snorting coke like he was afraid we were running out. I am a huge fan of SK. And even though I recognize that he could get a bit wordy back in the 80s, I still love every sentence.

I've read this book three times, first time as a ten year old, once in my teens and again in my twenties. I LOVED it. The memories I had of that book would make the hair stand up on the back of my neck and make me check the toilet before sitting down.

Fast forward to two weeks ago. I'm now in my thirties and with a a houseful of crumb snatchers I don't have time to read. But after watching the trailer for the upcoming movie it made me want to read it again. I'm on the road slot, so I got the audible book.

OMG...it is absolutely PAINFUL trying to listen to this story. I just keep telling Stephen "COME ON MAN GET TO THE POINT!!".

I don't understand. I loved this book. Maybe it's just trying to listen to it in the road, but I'm having a really hard time getting through it.

Stephen King is a pretty poor writer with fantastic concepts.

I see the fellow above me had a similar sentiment.

King is not a very good writer. Great storyteller however.

Just finished reading IT about ten minutes ago for the first time. I hate that it took me this long to get around to picking it up.

While it might seem long winded on descriptions at times, it was a fantastic read. By about 30% in, I was absolutely hooked.

Going to read The Stand next, I think.

What are some of his other "must reads?"

Holy shite! Book board!

This is about to become my favorite board.

I will fight you.

King is my favorite author and It is one of my all time favorite books.

I get completely lost in his books. He sets up the scenes and it puts you there by the time the action hits you're knee deep in the actual town. I love it.

My copy of Salem's Lot had literal finger grip marks from me gripping the book while I read it.

I'm in my second attempt to read The Stand

I bought the extended edition. It adds a lot to the story in my opinion especially concerning the Trashcanman

King's books aren't a quick read. They're not light reading. It's more like committing to a drama series. But I love them.

Salem's Lot
It
The Talisman

Those are my three favorites.
