Well instead of fixing it everyone just wants to make their own city.

Can't fix it if the population refuses reasonable measures. It's not like the people of St. George started out as wanting to incorporate. They were laughed at when they simple asked for some control over their schools.

This is a big problem in Baton Rouge. Certain elements constantly shout down any movement towards progress and then when those actually trying to make things better get frustrated, those same elements crucify them for trying to leave.

Certain elements are fearful of progress. Fearful of what it might uncover, fearful that they won't like what they see in the mirror.

Well stated.

It is really the largest issue with people running things in BR and those who support them. It is their way or the highway.

And when those they are siphoning from finally choose the highway, they are too god damn stupid to understand why they weren't just content with getting shafted.

It is never their fault when people leave. It's racism.

Somebody needs to get the mayor of Birmingham, AL on the hotline and ask him how he was able to turn his city around. The two cities mirror one another in so many ways, and Birmingham has undergone a remarkable resurgence in recent years. Crime is down, new businesses are moving into areas that were blighted for years, their downtown is thriving, etc. He is the black mayor of a predominately black city surrounded by suburbs in which the residents are mostly white. Sound familiar? For years Birmingham suffered from white flight largely due to poor public schools and high crime. Eventually, somebody had enough and started a campaign to take back the city from the thugs. The big difference here is that Mayor Bell was committed to working with local law enforcement whereas Mayor Broome has chosen to demonize them.
