if you rotate through the ball you have no need to use the forearms, and in a golf swing with proper rotation the right arm doesn't actually cross over the left, it just looks like it does because of side bend... and if it does, it's well after impact

I agree completely, but if you are having difficulty with pushes, then you are not getting rotation (by chance or physical stability) then the forearms are a good thing to key in on in terms of rotation...also, majority of the time a side affect of forearm rotation is a lack of the flying right elbow.
