If it's a less fortunate family and you don't want them selling it for cash....why not find out which electric company they are with and who's name the bill is under. And then deposit $1000 in their account as a credit. They won't be able to sell it or exchange it and for several months they will at least know their electric bill is taken care of.


ETA:Also....unlike a nice tv or electronics....it is also something that cannot be stolen from them if they live in a rough part of town.

Not having to worry about utilities would be awesome.
