LSU Baseball Recruiting Misses - South Louisiana

LSU Baseball has let some of the best from South Louisiana get away in the past few years:
Wyatt Marks (ULL/St. Thomas More HS) - 1.24 ERA in 36 innings, only 16 hits allowed an 56 K's.
Hogan Harris (ULL/St. Thomas More HS) - 2.51 ERA in 32 innings, 25 hits allowed and 46 K's.
Gunner Lege (ULL/Barbe HS) - 1.09 ERA in 49 innings, 29 hits allowed and 50 K's.
Austin Edens (Samford/St. Michael HS) - NCAA All-American, has 42 career homers at Samford as a power-hitting first baseman.
JT Mauldin (BRCC/St. Michael HS) - Leads BRCC in every hitting category and was named the #1 prospect in Southern Cali League last summer. UNO signee as a CF.
Taylor Schwarner (SELU/Holy Cross HS) - Leads SELU in every hitting category as the Lions 3B.
Ross Massey (Tulane/Catholic HS) - NCAA Freshman All-American last year with 90 innings of 2.29 ERA ball. But has struggled with command this year.
Travis Swaggerty (South Alabama/Denham Springs HS) - NCAA Freshman All-American last year and leads South Al in almost every hitting category this year. 5-tool guy.
I'm sure I missed some. Just seems like way too many guys from right here in our backyard going to other schools and having success.

Harris lives 2 blocks from UL's stadium. Was going nowhere else.

You do realize those schools are in the state of Louisiana and this is their backyard to. Beside Samford and South Alabama
Am I right??

35 man roster
you can't get everyone in LA
would love leger on lsu roster, other than that you can't really argue with the players or pitchers lsu has brought in

Edens, Mauldin, and Reed all played together at St Michael. I watched many of their games because my nephew was on that team as well. I never understood how Reed got an offer from LSU and not Mauldin and Edens. Especially Edens. No disrespect to Reed because he is a good ball player but thought the other two had more upside.
BUT
It isn't like LSU was the only big school to miss on these guys I mean that is why one is at BRCC and the other at Samford.

Massey followed his brother to Tulane, right?

Blame the NCAA. The scholarship restrictions really handcuff baseball coaches. I asked a former Mr. Baseball that left the state why he would ever go anywhere other than LSU. His answer was, "Talk to your boy Smoke. He literally didn't offer me anything. Wanted me to take TOPS and nothing else." Meanwhile another program gave him a full ride/paid for everything. You just can't do that with the scholarship limits and be a top program.

They would've all sucked here because Manieri would've coached them.

Paul needs to do a better job recruiting projected talent, I know it's tough but go get someone that has a track record of being very successful with it then make him your assistant or one of the assistants. It's a huge deal for college baseball, it's not easy but it's very possible. Some people just have an eye for it. Get those guys on your team because that's where it's at. I hope we are more successful in the coming years.
