The prosecutor should have included some lesser counts in the indictment related to child abuse, not reporting a crime, obstruction, etc. but they didn't want the jury to "settle" on those lesser charges. They went for murder and couldn't prove murder so they got her on nothing.
This is exactly right.
Prosecutor failure. Plain and simple. They could've easily convicted her of several other charges and sent her to jail for 20 years at least.
Negligent homicide, child endangerment, obstruction, etc.
ETA:
I, like most sane people, believe she killed her daughter. There would be no reason for this cover up and extent of the lying if it was simply an accident. However, they couldn't prove it. Its not about what they did, its about what you can prove.

I think most if not everyone agrees she had a part in the death in either first hand or covering it up. Problem was like others have stated the prosecution did a awful job proving it in court. I hope she rots in hell.
