I see it differently. There's obviously not a romantic component to a dad taking his daughter out for ice cream, so why use a term that carries that implication? I get that it's "cutesy" and such, but it still sounds strange to me to some extent.

I just think that's overthinking it. They just call it a daddy/daughter date, that's it. No biggie.
