I get that Springer obviously is missing the intangibles to steal a base, and I get that his OBP ranks up their w the best, but when the final result is that you get thrown out more times than not and you hardly ever even attempt a steal, how does that make you a leadoff hitter?

The historical stereotype of a leadoff hitter isn't a requirement anymore. Kyle Schwarber, Adam Jones and Carlos Santana hit leadoff.
