For Rome:

Another poster mentioned Cul de Sac. I enjoyed their wine selection.

Check out Roscioli. Make a reservation and be sure to go to the main location (they have a cafe style outpost that confused me on my visit). It's the best carbonara in Rome.

Sorpasso is great for lunch if you're touring the Vatican. Be sure to ask to sit in the back under the glass roof.

For pizza, try Pizzeria Baffetto. It's fun and delicious. The owner is pretty snappy - gotta be quick to get his attention

For gelato - Gelateria Della Palma. They have 150 flavors

Giolitti for gelato. It's the best gelato place in Rome. We literally ate it every night in Rome. They have fresh made whip cream that they add on top.

For dinner, alfredo e ada was our best meal in Rome. It's the definition of homemade Italian. It's a hole in the wall.
