My impression is that they unintentionally infected it, now they are trying to market it as being intentional. I could be wrong, however. That's just my gut feeling.

I think that's a pretty shady thing to do, so if I'm right I'll have lost more respect for Tin Roof. If not, then it's a wash.

Well, not all unintentional souring is bad, if that's the case. Hell, that's how sour beer began in the first place. Whether it's open top wild fermenting vs. critters getting through staves, as long as it sours nicely, then i don't see the problem.
