I'm gonna be in town this weekend with my gf. It's her first time in New Orleans and I wanted to take her to a cool, fun, laid back place on Friday. I've never been to Jacques Imo's, but it seems like it would fit the bill.

How is the food, service, etc? How long should I expect the wait to be if we get there around 7:00 or 8:00 for dinner? If it's a long wait, hanging out at Maple Leaf would be a good option, right?

If you're going at that hour, you're going to wait but that's what the Maple Leaf is for. The food is still good as usual and it will be fun and laid back.

I've found it to be decent food when I've been in the past; for similar money though better options abound.

It's very good, borderline great. Just plan to go early, otherwise you'll be waiting forever for a table.

I've never eaten there and regretted it.

Go for the atmosphere as much for the food. I remember back in the day it always a fun mix of tourist, locals, and attractive 20-somethings. You will wait though, especially if its a busy weekend in town.

Awesome atmosphere. I thought the food was good.

We didn't have too long of a wait time, but we went right next door and grabbed a beer.

Overpriced
Packed
Food is good

Biggest selling point is you get to wait at the maple leaf for your table

I don't eat much fried food anymore but that fried chicken there is excellent. When they are on top of their game that day in the kitchen that may possibly be some of the best fried chicken in the country. I would go there if I was from out of town. It's a pretty fun place especially for visitors.

Jacques Imo's sucked. Alligator cheesecake and boudin balls lacked flavor and were basically just fried-cheesiness akin to something you'd get at TGIFridays. The gumbo was bland. The fried chicken was pretty good. Redfish was cold. The sides were unremarkable and they gave very scant portions. It was a huge letdown and I'm an idiot for choosing this place. I was embarrassed. I should have known better.
