At what point do cities and states have enough of funding stadiums for sports teams whether it be the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc? I know it's how business is done now but is there a threshold where tax payers wake up and say enough is enough? At some point these leagues are going to run out of markets to exploit.

Pretty crazy how in my lifetime the NFL has gone from wanting to keep arms length from gambling to moving a team to Las Vegas to presumably maximize the benefit of gambling (otherwise what's the point its a small market).

How does it benefit gambling?

Las Vegas is a good choice because it is a destination City. Raiders fans from Northern California, Southern California, & everywhere else will trek to Vegas for a game. Ditto visiting team fans. Add in the locals and other tourists, and you'll have a full stadium.

Vegas is larger than many NFL markets including New Orleans. It is also one of the faster growing areas as well.

Vegas is a city of 600k people. I can see the tourist destination angle, but they'll lose most of their Bay Area fans and won't gain much in Vegas. And yes, the casino angle is sleazy to the core.

City population numbers are irrelevant. City boundaries are arbitrary. Use metro numbers. The Raiders will not be playing within the city limits. Most of the Las Vegas Strip is outside the city limits. The Stratosphere is located just north of Vegas's southern city limits.

I'm glad my home town is getting a team. Not glad it will bring more raider fans.

Have you researched where the Vegas funding come from? Hint: they nail tourists, not the tax paying locals.

Doesn't really matter. Still tax revenue that could be spent elsewhere. It's corporate welfare at it's worst.

It doesn't benefit gambling. It benefits from gambling as people gambling on the games will have a more intense interest than those who don't.

No, that tax revenue wouldn't be coming in if the Raiders weren't coming. The increase wouldn't have passed and therefore that tax revenue wouldn't be there. If anything it will create excess revenue that can trickle down to roads but we already budget way too much for our roads anyway. I can't tell you how often they just put up traffic cones without ever doing any construction just so they can justify the dollars they get now.

JG, I'd think you can't lose money, only make some if bought them, and sell off some games?

Raiders to Vegas Official

As a non-CA Raider fan, this seems like the best case scenario. Even a lot of Bay Area fans are admitting that the Raiders were basically forced out.

Mark Davis attempted to stay in Oakland for nearly 6 years before giving up and looking at Vegas. He gave it a damned good try to stay in the Bay Area.

Viva Las Vegas.

Don't give me that. If UNLV could bring in $$$$$$$$$ a conference wouldn't give two shits about a "research" university. College SPORTS is about $$$$$$$$$$$ not academics.

This gives me a good excuse to dress up as Hunter S. Thompson and go to games.

So you're happy with the government handing over $750 million to a private enterprise?

Exactly. Vegas is a very transient city, they will never develop a strong local fan base which is what they need.

However, the NFL has shown they don't give a shite about that and are just looking for the most money they can get now. frick fandom and community strength they say.

The stadium will be filled with around 50% of the opposing team's fans every time.

That being said, when do the Saints play in Vegas.
