I have a Shimano Sienna 1000 on a cabelas ultralight rod for crappie. You need bigger for specs, reds, & bass IMO. And I would up my budget on the saltwater setup. Basspro has Penn Battle II combos for $120. Get 3000 size--one rod n reel to rule them all.
