So what do you do? Boston has a plethora of assets, but how do you get what you need for a title run?

That is Ainge's dilemma and has been for a couple of years now. Boston has cap space, draft picks, a young and talented roster, and a great coach. But, how do they get over the top with these assets?

I like the "trade Thomas" idea. But, you better get something huge in return. And, with all their cap space as well, you're talking about getting a top player in trade and also signing a top player to go along with Horford, Bradley, Brown, Crowder, etc.

The question remains, though: If you're trading Thomas, to whom and who do you get that makes it worth if for Boston?

Checking the draft sites I see Josh Jackson as being Boston's pick. I said that earlier. Draft Jackson and package a deal for an established superstar. Jackson is going to be an elite talent in this league. Unless he decides to completely go criminal he will excel.

You don't have to get equivalent value, which is, I think, your sticking point. You defer some of that value-- there isn't going to suddenly be no trade market for Thomas.

Kicking the can down the road for assets makes absolute sense for Boston--the deal I mentioned with NY would be perfect, as would any number of other scenarios.
