I've got an employee that had his appendix removed last Thursday. How long would one typically be out?

It was done laparoscopically (sp?). His job doesn't require any lifting or anything like that, supervisory position.

I wouldn't think any longer than a day or two tops.

Google says normal return to work after laparoscopic is 1 to 3 weeks.

I had mine out on a Sunday and was back at work Tuesday. Mainly just office work for about a week till I got back out on the site.

He's milking it.

Had mine removed in college and was back to class in 3-5 days. Granted, I was moving slow and it hurt like hell if someone made me laugh. I think his time frame is fine. People deal with pain differently. When I had my vasectomy I was back at work the next day. Yes, you could argue it was a minor surgery ( ) but I seem to do better with pain than most around me.

What does his doctor's note say?

I'd say 1 week from surgery based off family members that have had an appy.

Did it burst? Because that could take up to 2 weeks to come back from. How old is he?

If it didn't burst, recover is much quicker....basically ease into work after a couple of days at home.

Should be back tomorrow.

I had one done and was only on light duty for a week, Dr. Said if I had an office job I could go to work 2 days after if I wore some wind pants.

I was off work for 3 months after my open heart surgery if that helps answer your question.

PS: I did also kinda die at one point. So there's that as well.

Mine almost ruptured. I was doing stuff after 4 days or so, but I couldn't really concentrate until about 6 days after.

If an employee was in bad enough shape to willingly ask someone to cut several holes in them and yank A frickING ORGAN out through one of those holes, then pay that person thousands of dollars for the experience, it's safe to say that they might need more than two days out of the office, Mr. Cratchit.

Of course, this is the OT, so I had my gallbladder removed laparoscopically in the morning and went to the bar with my friends that night.

No appendectomy, but I had a double hernia repair done laparoscopically midday on a Thursday. Was miserable Friday and especially Saturday. I remember thinking "There's no fricking way I'm going to be able to go to the office on Monday." Sunday I was feeling better. It was Mother's Day, so I tried to grill. That didn't work out well at all. I felt okay laying on the couch in the a/c, but I only lasted about 10 minutes standing in front of that grill!

But come Monday, I got my arse to the office. I wasn't particularly happy about being there, but the owner couldn't accuse me of sandbagging.
