That alone simply is not enough to begin an investigation into anything. It is NOT illegal to talk to Russians.

what if the context of said calls were enough to initiate an investigation? If the calls were so innocent then why did Flynn and the WH lie about it?

That's two questions. I'll take them in order

1. Yes, of course the content of said phone call could be enough to justify an investigation , but an investigation would certainly entail more surveillance of the American side of the conversation, you wouldn't just hope that Flynn called the Russian again so you could listen in on phone calls, the starting point of the investigation would be to assume that if the two were doing something illegal they would not use their known phone lines and such to conduct those conversations, AND most importantly in this situation as an investigator you would absolutely want to be up on Mike's phones and email to see if Donald Trump himself was part of whatever was going on. If Trump was involved by proxy, you wouldn't catch him talking to the Russian Ambassador, you would only know that by listening to phone calls between Flynn and Trump (if then)

There is simply no way a competent criminal investigation into any collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians could have taken place without the inclusion of electronic monitoring of those within the Trump campaign independent of the Russian Ambassador.

a political hatchet job never intended to become a criminal case , on the other hand.................

2. Why do politicians (and when you become a General in the Army you ARE a politician, that's why I got out, I was already feeling the pressure ) lie when they would be better served by the truth?
