The military industrial complex is made stronger by the strangulation of federal hiring. Institutional knowledge in defense programs shifts ever more to the contractors due to fewer and fewer feds and military rotating out every 3 or so years

The military industrial complex is the biggest boogeyman out there. It only exists because of our foreign policy. In fact, it is impossible for it not to exist with our current foreign policy. If you want to maintain the status quo then buckle up and quit bitching about defense spending because this is what it costs. If you have a problem with how much it costs then start complaining about our foreign policy. This isn't a partisan issue because the foreign policy of the last 7 or 8 presidents has been virtually identical. The democrats don't actually cut spending anymore than republicans actually raise it. They may fluctuate a few billion here and there to placate their ignorant voters but there is never any real change. Democrats love spending money on the military every bit as much at Republicans do. If you think otherwise you are a fool. If you think the MIC is anything more than an unavoidable symptom of maintaining the status quo you are a fool.
