So the meteorologists saw that the computer models that they relied on changed the forecast, and they elected not to change their official forecast as not to confuse the public, right?
Well now the public has lost confidence in the official forecast, and the next time people might not react properly and there will be a big mess.
Reality is politics get in the way of science, and the people were misled on purpose. Haven't we seen a lot of the same with the global warming debate? The narrative can't be changed even though we see the data does.

Agree with this, although it is probably more of a concern in places that don't get a certain type of severe weather often. Atlanta, for example, where 4-5 inches of snow became zero earlier this year. It's the second year in a row predictions of significant winter weather were totally off, and we're probably going to end up with another gridlock nightmare in the next few years because people aren't going to heed the warnings.
On the other hand, I expect it is more difficult for NWS to predict for places like Atlanta, where often the line between 6 inches and absolutely nothing is dependent on a swing of 3-4 degrees and precise timing.
