It is a cause for concern but it's not a reason to hit the panic button just yet.

Top 4 in the lineup are set and will hit. They have all proven they can against the best competition.

Three true freshman in the lineup all facing the best pitching they've ever seen in their lives. That can be improved on with just reps.

I don't know how long he can justify Pap's bat being in the lineup. His first two he still never hit but it felt like he gave a quality at bat every time. He's not even doing that now. And I think his hitting is hurting his defense. He can be a great defensive catcher but he does get lazy sometimes.

DH is still a working progress and will be a revolving door all year I believe and there is nothing wrong with that because you have good options.

Starting pitching has been excellent. This team will win a lot of games just because of the weekend rotation. Bullpen has the talent just needs the consistency.

Again, there comes a point in time where people begin to wonder why LSU is only capable of winning consistently when this team is loaded to the gills with position player talent.

We talk about a patented LSU hot streak under CPM, but the other side of that coin is mediocre to flat out bad baseball a team plays before and-unfortunately-after those in season streaks. You can't ignore that.

I'd rather consistency than streaks. Obviously most all of us would agree. But we rarely see that consistency out of an LSU Baseball Team outside of a few streaks here and there until a year where we have a loaded lineup, which Paul finds it hard to be consistent at putting together as well though that's a bit of a bigger picture discussion.

Which-for me-is personally annoying. Consistency is typically generated by repetition. It's rare to see this team get repetitions in quite the same way night to night. Paul is always tinkering. Always. Which I think impacts guys in this game at this level who don't have 160+ on the schedule to adjust.

On the one hand putting fans in the stands creates a need to figure out who can perform under the lights, and to an extent mid week/non-con won't always prove that out 100% compared to SEC play.

But summer league and Fall Baseball and scrimmages should seem to tell you a metric shite ton more than it seems to tell Paul. The in-season tinkering seems to tell me he doesn't rely on any of that.

The guy has his warts as a coach. None of us are perfect at our jobs. Few of us have one like his though. I just want a team that plays and competes consistently and a lot of times, I think the biggest impediment to that goal being achieved can be the head coach of the LSU Baseball Team.

That at $5 will get you a Large Granita at PJ's Coffee locations around the South Louisiana area though...
