Drinking. He'd be underage but at least it's not an illegal substance. The later would look worse on a job application.

Huh? Is your hypothetical child handling ounces of marijuana? Why would that show up on his record?
Drinking, meanwhile, could get him slapped with a MIP, in which he would have to go through pre-trial diversion; or perhaps a DUI, which is like, a felony and stuff
