Lincoln was perfectly fine with half a million human beings dying to keep a ragtag band of states together and wanted to fight states that wanted to leave the union, not invade like he suggested all the while using slavery as a justification for the war despite the fact that every other country was able to end slavery peacefully without a drop of blood being spilled and it was going to be economically obsolete soon.
