For some reason I thought you were in law school. If you can afford it, go for it.
I've just watched too many documentaries to ever buy a diamond ring. Slave labor, complete artificial scarcity, etc.

I was in law school. I got out and got a good job. I don't have the student loan debt typically associated with law school, though. That's big.

If you are looking for savings ask for cash price on engagement rings etc when you are about to pay. Many will discount 3% or more for not dealing with card fees

Damn, why the downvotes? Did I miss something? People obviously can't be thinking he is not being charged a fee for using a CC on his mortgage

Your suspicion may well be correct, but you got dinged because you appeared to assume the three percent he mentioned was a fee he paid for using the card. He said that was the rate he pays on the mortgage.
We don't know yet if he is paying a fee to use the card. He thinks not, but some are skeptical.
I had a cable bill get almost overdue years ago. It was too late to mail a check in time, so I called and asked if they would take a card. Gladly, sir. frickers hit me for a five buck convenience fee on the next bill. They never mentioned that on the phone.
