I am 6 hours in, in the desert and I’m not hooked yet....story has not grabbed me at all. I will keep pushing, but man, I typically have the same taste as Carson but not here so far.

Played this back in May and was in the same boat as you. I did not get hooked until the end of route A. Don't want to spoil anything, but it prob took me around 10 hours to get there. Iirc I ended up spending 50ish hours on the game after doing a lot of exploration, but keep on going and I think you will get way more invested into the game.

I wrapped it up about 2 weeks ago. You want to stick with it. Going to summarize it a bit with how it will go each play through, no spoilers. You have to play through at least 3 times to complete the true game. The play throughs are same events, but not the same at the same time.

1st - Ending A - oh that was neat. I guess I can walk away if I want.

2nd = Ending B - Oh that was what was happening over there, I missed that. That makes more sense now, plus the credits at the end seem different and cooler.

3rd - Ending C - Oh, this is kind of weird. WTF happened, this is some bullshite. Why am I here, I feel like I am looking at a double rainbow.

Then for fun

What if I choose a different path at the end would it have been better - Ending D - Crap I have the sads now and what the hell is going on with the credits. Ending E - ????

Ok one piece of free advice. When you can go ahead and self destruct 2B, she will recover and is much more fun to play that way.

Stick with it dog, trust me. i think a lot of us started out similarly. In my case, the opening mission and boss had me like with all the changing perspectives and gameplay types, and then I was kinda meh towards it once I got into the open world. Desert is easily the worst part of the game, so just get it over with and push ahead. You will really like the subsequent sections

In regards to all the endings and routes you're reading about - the game is structured like so

Route A - what you're playing through now
Route B - Route A, but from a different perspective. You're OP as frick and blast through it much quicker. Some route divergences with new story insights and background

Once you clear A and B, the story continues with Route C (all new content)

Route A/B's story will not impress you. It has some awesome moments, but it's not the profound stuff you hear about when people discuss the game. It's standard Japanese fare and nothing you haven't seen before. Route C is where all of the genre tropes are completely subverted, all the twists come, and all the crazy philosophical questions are asked. Classic Yoko Taro

Most of the sidequests are pretty meh design-wise, but they flesh out the world and main story so well. Strongly suggest doing them on Route A. You can skip most of them on Route B so you don't get bogged down and then go back and clear anything you missed with Chapter Select.

Read the other threads about this. Lots of "Just finished. I need a moment" "this game fricked my world up, GOTY" etc. The game shows its small budget in a lot of way s but is still able to make something special. So many great characters, so much charm, and so many unforgettable sequences that will stick with you for a long time. GOAT game soundtrack too. I wouldn't tell you to stick with it if I didn't think you'd enjoy it
