I didn't NEED one. The one in the house when we bought was already here making it AT LEAST 13 years old and it has developed a small leak underneath. Not a big deal as it was in the garage and near the 'man door' so it just ran out in the winter and evaporated in the warmer months. A friend just remodeled and went tank-less. They gave me the one they took out which was newer and 50 gal instead of 40. I am swapping out the heating elements while it is empty. Seems like a no-lose...Plus I get to spend a day or two in the mnts. by myself...I am a little hungover though.
