St. George has all these grand plans for top schools. Where are they getting the money? Are they going to raise property taxes to do so?

They have an unrealistic budget which fatally underestimates every cost possible.

Let's be honest, the quality of schools has little to do with how much money is put into them and everything to do with the students and their families.

St. George schools will be among the most successful in the state in a few short years. My problem is the potential damage that does to the remaining schools (and children) in Baton Rouge. It could very well be a negative sum game.

Anyone who pays property taxes now in EBR Parish pays taxes to one of the school systems.

ST Georgians (to be) pay property taxes to the EBR Parish School system, and businesses in the same area pay sales taxes to the EBR Parish School system.

In lieu of paying the EBR system they would pay the St. George School System. Tax revenues are there right now to build and operate schools. The question is not whether or not there is money, the question is whether or not there is enough money.

FWIW, Central and Zachary both faced the same issues St. George is facing and both are doing well. Baker is not doing as well.

As for tax increases that is possible, and that is one factor that should be considered by anyone on the fence.
