They probably told him to leave because they were afraid that, you know, two flaming buildings might fall on him or something. SUPRISE! They were right!

What people fail to understand about the "jet fuel can't melt steel" argument is that the towers were hit by a freaking 747 moving at over 500 mph. The buildings were massively weakened from the impact alone. At that point, you don't need to completely melt steel, you just need the heat to weaken the steel (which was already weakened from impact). You don't have to melt steel to weaken it!
In any case, once the steel skeleton of the building is weakened enough, gravity does the rest of the work.
