I live in the lower Garden District, all of my neighbors are professional people, probably 80% identify as democrat and the 20% that identify as republican are not related to the mouth breathers here. Sorry.

I live in the richest zip code in Chicago (and one of the richest in the country), and it's far more conservative than most of the rest of the city. Nice anecdote.
To the OP, the left is often younger. That's probably the main reason.

So you're in a bubble.
I live amongst similar professionals, but in Madisonville and 85% of them are republicans. Thing is, I've always been aware of my chosen bubble.
