I think it is the inability to play it like men is what turns people off. It is impossible to watch. Just imagine if women's softball fields had pro/college mens fences/base paths or if instead of softball they played baseball with basically all of the same rules/equipment.
Softball is made so it can be fun and interesting for women and spectators.
