Why do progressives against freedom of expression?

the contorted argument goes typically like this

opposing views = hate speech

allowing a person to have a public forum for hate speech will (1) convince people on the fringe to hate marginalized groups (2) noramlize hate speech and (3) create an unsafe environment for marginalized groups, destroying some bullshite right to safe spaces, essentially

so they believe they have to promote censorship because "hate speech" is just speech that creates violence and violates the "imminent lawless action" test of Brandenberg v. Ohio

it's convoluted as frick

Don't forget that they then riot and commit acts of violence to stop said "hate speech" from happening, but then blame the "hate speech" for provoking them to violence. It's like these people are completely divorced from logic

I will never understand why leftists don't want groups they consider to be "fringe" and "crazy" to get more air time. If the views being expressed by Milo, Shapiro, et al are so crazy then they should want them being talked about so that they can be judged accordingly by the court of public opinion. It's amazing to me that they don't understand that this is one of the major reasons that Trump is President right now.

Personally, I want all of these crazy leftists to be given microphones to spout off their SJW nonsense because it turns off the vast majority of people and continues to move the overton window away from their positions.
