Hey guys,

Let me start off by saying that we are not completely shutting down. The essence of this sub-reddit and its best streamers will be moving over to a new home (soccerstreams.online) starting today, however, match threads will still be posted and streamers will be allowed to post their links in them.

You will also still be able to create match threads for matches not listed on the website.

I’m sure you all are wondering why this is happening so suddenly, but this has been brewing for a while and there are several reasons for it:

1. If you stream games regularly here, you will have noticed that an increasing number of streamers have been getting banned recently. Over the last few weeks, our jobs have become quite complicated to maintain the sub with Verified Streamers getting shadowbanned and blacklisted. With the new website, we’ll have more control over who stays and who goes.

2. We will have complete freedom over how we are able to design and run the website. Reddit is extremely limited in what it allows us to use (for example, we cannot use Javascript), so we have had to think of several workarounds over the years for the features we have implemented; some of which worked but others didn’t. Having a bot do multiple tasks per minute each day is a tough ask, especially through a free server, which is why the bot has been down so frequently. On the new website, this won’t be an issue at all.

3. Greater freedom means greater efficiency and greater control. This also means our job gets easier. We will no longer have to bother with post formats, while things like spam will be a lot easier to control and minimize.

4. Our moderators deserve some reward for the amount of time and energy they put into this sub. We have had an extremely difficult time finding people who are able to dedicate their time moderating. While many sign do up to become moderators, they quickly realize how much work goes in behind the scenes, which leads them to giving up the position. We dedicate almost our entire weekends to helping make good quality streams available for you; however, due to Reddit’s moderation TOS, we are unable to do so. While we are seeking to form legitimate commercial opportunities with streaming companies, the website will be kept ad-free and completely safe for use as it is our aim to operate as a not-for-profit organization.

The new website will function like this sub, and you will be able to do much of the same things like creating your own personal accounts and commenting on streams. We are extremely excited for you to try out your new website, and we are sure that you will come to love it as much as we do. A mobile version of the website is also in the works and will be available soon.

Important note: This sub-reddit will not be completely shutting down. It will continue operate as a backup for the website, and as a medium for you to communicate with us. However, as mentioned before, all the verified streamers will be moving to the website, and eventually along with them, the rest of the streamers will too.
