Yes, they have. Again, though, they're in a position of their own making, both in public perception as well as actual product performance.

You're probably right, but do you think these components would be better if they were American-made? Electronics, traditionally, have been the foreign (particularly Asian) strong suit. All components like those will have some inevitable failures, either based on time or just the incidental defect in production. It happens.

Quality control has always been a huge problem with Chinese products.

See my earlier posts about the Toyota door lock motors. I think most people expect locks, windows and other electrical components of an auto to last more than 4 years. They should.
