Buying Greenhouse Gas Emissions Offsets when renting a car

Just made a reservation for a rental car for an upcoming trip. With Enterprise Rental Car (other companies may do the same, not sure). On the page where one can select extra equipment (child car seats, GPS, etc.) one of the options is now 'Greenhouse Gas Emissions Offset' at $1.25 a pop. Been renting cars for years, first time I've seen this. Hubby called it a 'papal dispensation' given out by false Pope BHO. Needless to say, opted to purchase exactly 0.

Worked at Enterpeise 13-16 out of college. Nobody could explain what that was or why it even was an option.

Yeah I have my own offset system. On Earth day I let my 6.8L V10 idle in the driveway all night.
