The story of the names coming from the daughters of the railroad developer is correct. Rodessa was originally called Frog Level, before it was changed.

Vivian used to be a somewhat common name for females. Not sure if I've ever known a woman named Myrtis. Rodessa is a giant leap forward from Frog Level 
and she was smoking hot in my mind's eye.
