I doubt the Left has much opinion on it at all. The Right is all for getting the money to pay for these things; Libertarians all about getting our bases and soldiers back on American soil.
If an American military base in Germany is unable to pay for all of its operating costs with German funds, it shouldn't be there in the first place. I'm not saying Germany should pay for our planes, but they should pay for our fuel. And reimburse us for the salaries of the men and women who fly them, maintain them, etc.

Not all conservatives want the military to be all over the world at our expense. You want our protection pay for it.
We should ask Germany if they care more about social causes or defense. You find a way to pay for both or don't expect us to subsidize it.

You realize they want our bases due to the financial benefit TO THEM!!!!
They are not going to PAY FOR US to sit on their soil. Normally renters pay the owner. Until this point, the calculus has been that USA gets net benefit from projecting our power abroad. This is one way we do it.
