How many promises does this make that Trump has followed through on?

Who could be against this? He's telling countries to live up to the commitments they have made.

this is similar to what's been said under the past 3 presidents, e.g.:

Blunt U.S. Warning Reveals Deep Strains in NATO
By THOM SHANKER and STEVEN ERLANGERJUNE 10, 2011

BRUSSELS — Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates sharply criticized NATO nations on Friday for what he said were shortages of military spending and political will, warning of “a dim if not dismal future” and “irrelevance” for the alliance unless more member nations contributed weapons, money and personnel.

In his final policy speech before he steps down, Mr. Gates issued a dire and unusually direct warning that the United States, the traditional leader and patron of the alliance, was exhausted by a decade of war and its own mounting budget deficits and simply might not see NATO as worth supporting any longer.

NATO military spending or more specific their lack of funding has to be addressed and handled. We have our $2 billion Arleigh Burke class destroyers providing ballistic missile protection to our European allies meanwhile they won't spend the require 2% GDP which is the minimum accepted amount to provide and maintain a viable force. Recently the British have cut spending that now they don't even carry anti ship missiles on their sub force.

releasing a statement is great and all but I will hold my praise until we either see the other nations paying up their full responsibilities or see the US leave them hanging.

I think Mattis may end up being the best hire Trump has made. I really think Mattis is everything we should stand for.

Good. An alliance is a lot like a marriage. You can't really expect one spouse to stay fully committed if the other spouse isn't likewise committed.

And for far too long Europe has shown zero commitment. Yeah they talk about how commited they are to NATO, but talk is cheap. The true measure of how serious they are about NATO comes from their actions though. And their actions for the past couple decades has shown they're not nearly as committed as they claim.

Mattis is a fricking boss. In my mind he's wearing a cowboy hat and pearl handled pistols to the meeting.

Step back a moment and realize the huge win of having Mattis rather than whatever bit of excrement the bitch would have picked.
