It's possible that instead of firing him, Trump is going to try and stake out a middle ground here and demote Flynn to deputy or some other post because he really likes him and values loyalty as he's one of the OGs of the Trump campaign when nobody gave him a chance.

It will be done if the bad press escalates.

When has a political appointee ever been punitively demoted and yet still remained with an administration? Honest question. I doubt it happens.

What Trump may do is freeze him out of the inner circle and strip him of any influence while allowing him to keep his rank and title until there's an opportune time for him to "voluntarily" leave for "family" or "health" reasons.
