Freshman Doyle & Springfield played very well for their first time out. Griggs, Landry, SJ, Sanchez played well. Serrett, Quinn & Thornhill struggled at times at the plate. Defense was good - I think only 1 error in five games. Pitching was decent. I question starting a freshman in game 2 with a rookie catcher before you even pitched Smith or Hoover. Should have brought her in with big leads to see what she could do.

While I understand the frustration with Serrett's hitting. Seems the coaching staff has already given up on her. They pinch hit for three times the first three games and after only two at bats for the year. How much confidence can she have in herself when they have none in her.

I wouldn't read it that way. That's the good thing about the nuance of the re-entry rule in softball. In the McNeese game, Serrett struck out her first two times and honestly looked bad doing so. Since she obviously wasn't seeing that particular pitcher well, it gave the coach a chance to get another player an at-bat while still leaving Serrett in defensively. That pinch-hitter was Walljasper, who ended up having a great AB and driving in the tying run with a double. I don't think the players take it personally or that the coach has no confidence in them when they get pinch hit for. It's a team game. Serrett hit over .300 last year and I'm sure her bat will come around. Soon she will have a hot weekend and Coach won't need to pinch hit for her.

I think reading between the lines with Beth's quotes after the game, then hearing her pregame radio interview Saturday before Day 2, I think she realized she made a mistake in doing that.
