Is it not better for the integrity of the game to know ahead of time who gets the ball in the "third" half?

I don't see where it matters, honestly. As it is teams have to chose to play for the win or tie late in a game. Sure the knowledge that the other team will get the ball first in OT may influence a decision, but I bet teams will play for the tie more often than not. Most coaches probably would feel that it's better to lose in OT than regulation.

But given this, doesn't it make as much sense for possession to be determined randomly both times? It essentially puts teams on equal footing in OT. One change I could consider would be giving the home team the opportunity to call the toss in OT.

Before the rule change only 30 something % of teams won the game on the first drive. How can you get anymore fair than that? That obviously proves teams werent winning games because of the coin toss.

Doing anything other than going back to true sudden death would be stupid.

The point of sudden death is to end the game quickly and also make it exciting.

Don't get me wrong. I know full well that there was never a problem with the old NFL sudden death OT rule, and I know this because I'm a man, and anyone who disagrees isn't a man. I fully believe that.

But, since the bitching is always directed at the coin, that's why I took the coin out of the game and kept it before the game.
