So if you lose the original coin toss, you always get the ball 2 out of 3 times? Why?
Because the game went into overtime and there's only one ball. Is it not better for the integrity of the game to know ahead of time who gets the ball in the "third" half? The antagonist of this story, currently, is the coin. This plan kills off the coin in the prologue.

I don't see where it matters, honestly. As it is teams have to chose to play for the win or tie late in a game. Sure the knowledge that the other team will get the ball first in OT may influence a decision, but I bet teams will play for the tie more often than not. Most coaches probably would feel that it's better to lose in OT than regulation.

But given this, doesn't it make as much sense for possession to be determined randomly both times? It essentially puts teams on equal footing in OT. One change I could consider would be giving the home team the opportunity to call the toss in OT.
