I don't think I understand what your proposal is

The privileges you win by winning the pregame coin toss go to the opposing team at the beginning of the first overtime.

Team A wins the pregame coin toss. Captain A chooses on behalf of Team A whether to kick, receive, defer, or defend an end zone, and Captain B chooses from the remaining choices. For example, Captain A elects to kick. Then Captain B elects the end zone to defend. Play ball.

If the fourth quarter ends with the score tied, the captains meet again, and now Captain B makes the first choice since Captain A chose first 60 minutes ago. Captain B likely chooses to receive (unless New England is playing Denver and Bill picks the wind), and then Captain A chooses which end zone to defend. Play sudden death. No coin involved after the beginning of the game.

So if you lose the original coin toss, you always get the ball 2 out of 3 times? Why?
