Friend of mine from Vancouver is a music teacher making 93k in 3rd year

think about that for a second; even if vancouver is expensive, not even sf teachers make that amount after 10 years.

So, you equate paying teachers too much money with success in education. I think this is a major part of the problem. Education is about the students, not the teachers.

US or Canadian?

That's about 70k US...still good though.

Not at a public school s/he's not.

The minimum salary in Vancouver was $50k-ish. The maximum is $80k-ish.

Of course, that's a little over 70K in USD.

I'm OK with paying teachers more, if we can get rid of tenure. I have a problem with teachers being guaranteed a huge salary, even if they suck...

Michelle Rhee paid teachers nearly 6 figure and handed out bonuses for teachers that performed well.

She was then fired (technically stepped down) because unions got mad because she was firing teachers that weren't performing.
