Do You Think Alleva Is Letting JJ Play the Season Out to Bury Brown/Temple?

There's really no positive way to spin what's happening because it means one of the following:

a) Alleva was a weak enough AD to succumb to the influence of Brown and Temple in hiring a basketball coach and needs things to get ugly enough to neuter their influence.

b) Alleva is so weak of an AD that he doesn't have enough professional/political clout to oust JJ.

c) Alleva is so incompetent/aloof about athletics so as not to think there's actually an issue with LSU basketball.

Doubt it. I've seen Alleva speak in seminars on campus and if there is one thing he is ultra-aware of and responsive to, its money. He sees those already-low ticket sales going even lower. No doubt about that.

Alleva is doing exactly that. He's letting Dale and Collis and the boys see what they lobbied for. Joe enjoys a little condescension as much as anyone. He's absolutely gonna let jones go down in flaming ball of poo bc joe knows how this makes the good ole boys look too. He's gonna get his money's worth and then he will make the change. Don't expect it prior to seasons end. Joe is enjoying his I told you so too much right now

It has to either be the incompetence option or that he knows he is miserably bad at hiring coaches and is scared that he will lose his job after he fricks up yet another hire.

Why would anybody think Alleva has a plan about anything at this point?

Funny 3 choices. Probably more like, 'we fired the inept football coach mid-season and that brought a ton of negative publicity.' Considering this, a lack of long-term plan, bball profitability and the contract buy out, this is a pretty simple conclusion.

Let's grab an awesome coach from one of the Cinderellas this March.

Alleva doesn't want to fire 2 coaches in-season, but he really needs to end this debacle with JJ now. Can't really get a great coach until after madness is over. So no giant hurry I guess. Let this season be over with.

I think he lets it go to the end for a few reasons:

1. A change now isn't going to "save" the season and he doesn't have many (if any) influential boosters/BOS members jumping down his throat to replace Jones like he did with Miles.

2. Jones has definitely underachieved, but he hasn't been horrible until this season. For all of the obviously weak coaching, this will be his first losing season. Maybe Joe thinks he deserves to finish out his tenure.

3. He may not want to get the reputation of an AD who has a proclivity to fire coaches mid-season. While becoming less so, it's still somewhat taboo to fire a coach mid-season in the college game. Maybe he thinks doing it twice in the same season will hurt his chances of luring a good coach here.

***In the end does it really matter though? We've seen what he did with a two-month head start on replacing Miles. He could have gotten the same result with a two minute head start. Hopefully Joe is putting together a short list and getting a game plan ready implement as soon as the season ends. However, based on past history, we can't be confident that is the case.

I can't stand Alleva. But this is a dumb post.

D) Alleva is waiting until the end of the season when a change will be made.

I personally believe Alleva is afraid if he fires Jones during this season the players will refuse to play the remaining games.

Is there anything Alleva has been involved in that hasn't turned into a PR nightmare?

LSU should have known what they were getting in Alleva when they hired him because of the Duke lacrosse scandal.

Seriously, what's the point in canning him? Satisfaction?

It isn't like we have a savior sitting as an assistant on the bench. We can compile a coaching team consisting of Wooden,Smith, Knight, K, Izzo, Boeheim, Calhoun and this team still isn't going to win games.

To keep making excuses for Alleva everytime something coach related goes wrong is stupid.

the striking thing about the relationship between Jones and Brown and Brown's influence on Jones and his hiring is, you never see the tough defense, the exuberance, the team play from Jones' squads, or even the coaching acumen that Brown had, which many say was deficient

but also there is simply very little front-court talent

No. Although, this would be a nice side effect of this whole fiasco.

I honestly believe Alleva just sees no benefit in pulling the trigger right now. It's not like it would salvage the season.

Unlike football, this season is already done. Firing jones now won't accomplish anything except paying another coach not to work

No. He just really stands to gain nothing by firing right now

I mean there is nothing to gain from firing jones mid season. Let the dude finish out the year then can him. no matter what I don't see temple/brown having much say in future hires. Johnny was their guy and he's been a colossal failure.
