Just placed an order last week. Buddy got a couple and really liked them, so I figured why not. If I can get a completely custom suit for $425, why not give it a shot?

Usually when they have their "holiday sales". This being President's Day weekend you can probably pick one up for cheap.

Just remember, Brooks Brothers Factory is not the same merchandise they sell at the Brooks Brothers retail store in the mall or airport, so the "deal" isn't necessarily as sweet as it sounds.

I have a few suits from the factory and they are as good as any other off the rack suit you'll find for under $500. Only Brooks Brothers snobs would ever notice the difference from their retail suits.

If you want to go higher end check out Tom James. They have some very high-quality suits but they are overpriced. The trick is to order one when they have their semi-annual sale (July/December).

It also helps if you know one of their sales reps and can get the friends and family discount. They have offices in most major cities, look up the local agents and see if you are connected to them through Facebook or LinkedIn. You might know someone they know and if you hit them up when they need to move units for a bonus you might get 50% off.

One nice thing about being a size 50 is I can wait it out until the sales hit if I see a suit or coat I like. Not a chance if in low 40s. Last year watched a sportcoat HSM at Dillard's start at $650. A few months later at father's day it was $250. Waited til sales tax weekend in August, $148. Got it. Done that several times.

Buddy Red, what is your understanding of Manuel? From what I have been led to believe, he does not "make" his suits.

I don't think he does either. Don't waste your time... go next door to George Bass if you want quality. Samuelsohn, Isaia and Kiton if you want to be a baller. They have quality stuff.

I have picked up some MTO Sammy suits from them in the past, good quality/price ratio, especially at the trunk show. Over the last few years, however, I have moved to commissioning garments from a tailor that visits Dallas.
