God forbid that any group not be given credit for American success. History books must have quotas.

“At the beginning of my syllabus I mention that the largely Muslim Kingdom of Morocco became in 1777 the first country to recognize the independence of the United States. (Some of George Washington’s soldiers in the continental army were Muslim as well.) And, a treaty signed with Morocco in 1787 remains the longest unbroken treaty relationship in U. S. history

I wonder if she knows WHY such a treaty was signed? Did you know that the Moroccans were hijacking American merchant ships and holding the crew for ransom? It became such a problem that Thomas Jefferson had to actually go to Europe to negotiate with the retards. The Barbary pirate war is widely considered America's first foreign war (but is largely forgotten by history).

Moreover, it wasn't just America. The Muslim pirates had been hijacking European ships for a long time. They also conducted slave raids on European shores and it is estimated they kidnapped around 1 million Europeans between 1530 and 1780. Many women and children were hauled off to North Africa and sold as slaves. It was so bad, that many coastal towns in Europe (all the way north to Ireland) were completely abandoned to avoid the slavers.

When Jefferson and Adams met with the Arabs in London to negotiate, they inquired what exactly impelled the Arabs to hijack American ships. They were told the following:

quote:

“it was written in the Koran, that all Nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon whoever they could find and to make Slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Mussulman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

A good write-up on the Barbary pirates in early American history (written by Christopher Hitchens, actually): LINK

I wonder if this SJW "professor" will be teaching this history? I somehow doubt it.
