Let's say you had a friend who was down on his luck, and so you let him stay in your spare bedroom free of charge, just until he got back on his feet. Time passes, and he goes out and finds a job and gets some good money rolling in - but he doesn't move out, and you're too kind-hearted to kick him out. But more time passes, and he doesn't leave, and starts bragging about the new car he bought, and the new tv, and other such things, all of which are nicer than yours, and which he can afford because he doesn't pay anything in rent. When you finally sack up and tell him that he can no longer stay free of charge, and will either have to pay rent or move out, do you think he's going to take that news well? Would you say your relationship might be "fundamentally changed" as a result?

Trump is going to have a lot of those type conversations in his term.
