I feel like I remember reading that some high schools pay universities like $10 a year for the right to use logos

The Woodlands HS just north of Houston was threatened with a lawsuit from Wisconsin several years back because they were using the same "W" logo as Wisconsin, so they too had to make adjustments.

I know it seems petty to some, but a copyright is a copyright, it is what it is and people pay millions of dollars to protect their logo, whatever the case may be. Once exceptions start to be made it would open the floodgates for so many other things. I have a buddy who is a patent attorney who was involved (as a clerk at the time) with the Woodlands high school litigation and said it was very smooth and the school did NOT try to fight it. Of course a handful of parents pissed and moaned but the administration and legal staff were quick to oblige with the demands of the University of Wisconsin.
