STL is in a very odd spot.

Last week they voted and denied stlfc, 2 hours later they voted again, and approved stlfc.

We should know this week if it will happen or not.

No, we won't know for a few months. The deadline to submit bids is tomorrow. Garber & friends will review, and reveal the next two or three accepted bids sometime in the coming months. "Second or third quarter of 2017". Then the final two would be revealed at a later date.

I meant we would know if it still stands a chance this week.

If they deny it, that outcome will be this week.

If not this round, then certainly next. Garber wants St Louis. And most MLS fans do too. I think it is only a matter of time for St Louis.

But can you explain why you think this when it looked like 3/4 the stadium for the usa game was empty?

The US match was a friendly match between our MLS players on their offseason against Serbia's C-team. That's not going to sell out an NFL stadium.

Do you know the attendance number for the game though? I think they didnt even seat fans on one side of the stadium. Just attempted to fill, but didnt succeed, the lower bowl on the side of the stadium viewable on tv.

Attendance at any usmnt game shouldnt be that bad.

It's been much worse. They announced 20k ticket sales, which isn't the lowest in the past 12 months.

I propose a sticky thread dedicated solely to MLS expansion. There is a lot to talk about.

TB presented their proposal today:

Not unless a stadium deal is done. The looks of it now that's not going to happen.

You don't know what you are talking about.

It got through the city's full board of alderman after being voted down by the ways and means committee the first time. Adjustments were made and the ways and means committee approved and sent it the the full board of alderman for a vote, which passed. It is set for a public vote.

The financials are at minimum neutral for the city because the amended ticket taxes put in at the 11th hour. And all the players in city politics are in favor. They will campaign for it and it will pass.

St Louis officially filed its expansion bid LINK

Mike Stone, the leader of a prospective MLS ownership group, hand-delivered San Diego's expansion application bid to MLS Commissioner Don Garber in an event held on Monday afternoon on the deck of the USS Midway in San Diego. The city's mayor, Kevin Faulconer, and MLS legend Landon Donovan also attended the event.

Barring a wrench in the plans, such as student pressure that forces San Diego State to withdraw from the planned partnership, I feel that this strong bid by San Diego will secure one of the slots in MLS. It is clear that Garber likes the idea of a club there, they have the full support of the mayor and local government, and they are not asking for public finances. Moreover, San Diego State needs a stadium to play football in other than the old, cavernous Qualcomm Stadium that the city wants to demo in order not to pay millions in maintenance. Consider the economic mixed use development plans and a new large park on the site by a river and just about all boxes are checked.

Regarding Saint Louis, it appears that the city government threw the ownership group a lifeline by approving $60M in public finances toward the planned stadium. So the ship has been rocked but it seems that the path to MLS has been steadied, at least for the immediate future.

If Sacramento is #25, St. Louis is #26, and San Diego is #27, then that leaves Cincinnati, San Antonio, Detroit, Nashville, and Tampa to battle it out for the very last spot. I have a soft place for Cincinnati, all apologies to the supporters of Nashville. I think those tremendous supporters of Cincinnati deserve it and I hope the ownership group develops a solid plan for them.

From the other thread 60 million is barely enough

Is it just me or does it seem like attendance for USMNT games have really declined in the past two years? I know they've had several games in the last year that didn't even have 10,000 in the stands.

The ownership group is flush with cash. They will take what public officials give them and move forward. This thing isn't getting derailed over 10 to 20 million of public funding. It was all negotiation.

Now that it's out of the board of alderman it's all but a sure thing.

MLS wants St Louis. St Louis wants MLS.

Want to see a stadium issue...look at Miami. That was a stadium issue. St Louis' bid is fine.
