The Model Dockyard Locomotive got around that limitation by using a real steam-propelled engine that required kids to pour either kerosene or alcohol into the train and then light it.

what could go wrong?

My brother used to stand about 50' apart and see who could land one closer to the other person.

All we did back then was win 2 world wars, invent aviation, harness the atom and go to the fricking moon.

I have four turn of the 20th Century steam model locomotives. Live steam trains were fairly common, though hard to find now.

Ives made a toy train that had the transformer (converting house AC to 1-28 volts AC) inside an all metal station - with a removable roof and no insulation or device to keep some kid from hitting the house current that went inside the station.

I have a picture somewhere of the innards of the station.
