I once had a boss who just flat out lied and constantly blamed others for his errors. It got to the point where I didn't even know how to correct him without it getting confrontational.

Sigh. Working for da man sucks...

I had one who was a procrastinator. When I turned in expenses they would sit on her desk for 9 weeks! A lot of people have left and the program is about to go under because of her

My last boss was completely in over her head. Unfortunately, it didn't matter what I thought as her boss thought she was doing a good job. So I could either go with the flow and stayed employed or be disruptive and go against the grain.

Fast forward a few months later. I finally had "that" conversation with my boss. I politely told her that I did not enjoy working for her, did not believe in her leadership skills and said that I promised myself when I left my old company that if I ever got extremely unhappy with my job situation, I would leave.

So I left. She was taken back by my comments. Felt refreshing on my end.

That was 9 months ago.

I found out this week she has since been demoted.

Had a misandrist for a boss once. In addition to that, she was the textbook definition of a terrible leader, constantly undermining teamwork and pitting coworkers against each other. What a miserable bitch she was...

The last boss of mine had a terrible Cocaine problem. He would come into work in cargo shorts and old t shirts, still drunk from the night before. The other employees and I used to make fun of him constantly. He found out somehow that we used to talk shite about him, and he made a point to make a cocaine joke in literally every meeting.

Most of us ended up quitting. In my exit interview, I told him I thought he was a huge piece of shite and would never consider asking for a recommendation from him. I found out from our old HR rep that he was fired last month.

I've been fairly lucky, but my wife hasn't. She worked for two years for a higher ed institution with chronic leadership problems.

Probably the worst was when a high-level administrator left to take another job. As tends to happen in higher ed, instead of the school taking the time and effort to search for the most competent person to replace him, they just promote one of the people who worked under him.

That starts a whole domino effect of promotions to replace the position of the person who was promoted. There were 4 internal promotions that happened like this all the way down the chain. Not a single outside hire.

So anyway, one of the people who was given a promotion to replace high-level position was my wife's supervisor (who had told my wife on several prior occasions that she hates managing people!)

You can imagine what happened next...a high-level manager who admittedly hates managing

Things went to shite real quick. Staff running amok. No one being held accountable. Tempers flaring and people getting in arguments in the office.

My wife high-tailed it out of there. She stays in touch with some of her former colleagues who say that it's gotten even worse.

I used to work for this guy in BR before he moved to Austin.

"I expect my computers to be used for work only. I expect my phones to be used for work only. Should you receive a personal call, keep it short. Should you receive a personal e-mail, I expect the e-mail either not answered, or a brief note telling whoever is sending you e-mails at work to stop immediately. Should I go through machines, which I assure you, I will be doing, and I find anything to the contrary, you will be terminated immediately. For those who think I am kidding, and do not get with this program, I will promise you that by Christmas eve 8:00 you will be gone."

It's been 25 years & I still cringe when I hear his name.

Last boss..

He was mad that I made more than him. We merged offices and his office was in a city with lower engineering rates and he didn't like that at all.

..and he was a short fricker with a Napoleon complex.

In my adult life out of college I've had nothing but great bosses. Generous, relatable, the kind of people you would probably hang out with outside of work.

Although in college I had this one guy who was a huge douche. He would vape all day, and that stuff stunk so bad. He took pride in how uneducated he was and still managed to be the boss, even though his job was dead end and menial. He stuffed his face with fast food all day.

I actually found out later that he was investigated for doing something with money under the books and was fired when another company bought them out.

New boss (from Canada) came in to oversee our entire IT department, 3rd week on the job he told our floor admin to order some tube steak next time we cater in. He did it over IM which of course she took straight to HR.

He got fired that same day.

My uncle.

Very hands off, but always tried to give off a vibe that he could do what you're doing better than you. We would routinely do better than competitors, and he would constantly wonder why we weren't doing better. Never showed appreciation for effort. If he ever gave a compliment, it was kind of back handed and usually turned into how we could be a little better.

When I worked for him, he had two senior managers, me for two years out of college to learn the ropes, and about 8 other employees and 4 of them were good workers... The only manager he has now is his son that came along after I left, two good guys that are looking for a way out, and now he has to bounce from crack head to crack head to get the rest of his employment base.

So thankful I got out when I did.

The worst bosses I have ever had have had one thing in common: ovaries.

The first job I ever had out of college, my boss was very well known in the industry. Hyphenated name narcissist. She knew her stuff, but was a terrible leader. People downright hated her. She worked 18 hour days and expected everyone else to as well. She liked me, so we didn't have problems, but I certainly had a revolving door of complainers in my office.

The worst boss I ever had was this miserable bitch that had just gotten divorced when I started the job. That seems to be a pre requisite for female education administrators.

Longest three years of my life. On top of being incompetent at her job, she hated men. Verbally abused everyone. My wife got pregnant with our first child when I was there. She wanted children and never could have them. She made a big deal out of me taking time off for appointments - made me take vacation time instead of sick leave. I asked HR about the policy and was told that I could take sick leave for it. She "wrote me up" for insubordination (it was thrown out) and I started the job search that eventually led to where I am. The last couple of months were miserable. I put in my two weeks to expire the first Monday after we were off Christmas vacation and felt good about it.

More of a supervisor than a boss. But she always found the smallest thing wrong with my work while giving everyone else free passes. I didn't mind that part because I did everything I was supposed to and then some. She was just a see you next Tuesday.

We were understaffed, but I put in a request to have my bday off 2 months prior to my bday (We were fully staffed at that time). So when the schedule came out, I didn't work a single day (schedules covered about a week and a half). And I asked her why.
Her response:
"Since you want your bday off so bad, don't worry about coming in all week"
So I told her how childish she was being and she told me to go find somewheres else to work. So I put in a 2 weeks notice. She called me in for a meeting (which I checked out of school for because she got off at 2 that day). And she apparently left early according to my coworker's. So I called her. No answer.

So that evening, I get a call from her telling me to come in tomorrow for a meeting. So I checked out of school again. She wasn't there so I called her about 4 times before she answered and she said she was on her way. About 15 mins later I get a call again "Sorry can't make it."
So the next morning while I'm in class, my phone rings. I ignored it and never called her again.

She's about 40-50 and she's a manager at subway. So everytime I go in there between work and school I'll say "You're still working here??" but the owner is cool as hell. He forgot to tell us about a big order we needed to fill. So instead of saying sorry and making us deal with it, he came in and made every single sandwich.

But yeah... if I'm over 30 and I'm working at a fast food place, please kill me.

One of my bosses in college took everything too personally. Would actually confront customers on site about visiting his competitors. Would hold it against them when they decided to go somewhere else.

Also had a boss in college who didn't want to be a manager. Retail sales manager. She would blame stuff on me and others when sales were low and get mad at us.

Glad I work for a high performance manager now. Dude is always jacked and positive.

I disagreed with my last boss on something and ended up being right. He held a grudge. I didn't need his approval on anything I did so I just kept doing my work. He wouldn't say good morning or speak to me. It was incredibly childish.

He waited until the Friday before Christmas and fired me. And he didn't do it himself. He had the new guy do it.

Anyway before I left I deleted the 3 months of work I had done. Frick that guy. I have a great job with a sane boss now.
