For the time being. There is a lawsuit in the UK against a seller of preloaded Kodi boxes. If the seller loses that suit then what I have read is streaming TV and movies thru Kodi will be illegal in the UK.....And you know US providers are watching this case.

The preloaded boxes are going to cause trouble for everyone else. Buying those is stupid anyway. If you want to learn how to get the most out of kodi it's better to set it up yourself from the ground up.

My guess is that the big cable providers in the U.S. are going to be lobbying hard and spending billions trying to make it illegal soon. The problem for them is you aren't downloading a hard copy of the file and have no way to share that downloaded file with anyone.
